In this verse, two types of people are contrasted. There’s the good or righteous man on one hand, and the sinner or unrighteous man on the other hand. What makes the difference between them is their status in God. This verse is a clear promise to the righteous, and a sure warning to the sinner. While the good man will have so much of the blessing of God that it flows down to his children’s children, the sinner will have something different. The righteous is assured of a lineage that is established. His seeds will inherit what he has worked for. Not only will they inherit his material blessings but also the spiritual blessings from God. We see this type of reality in our father Abraham whose seeds have received both his material and spiritual blessings. On the flip side, the sinner will never get to have descendants to inherit his wealth. All his toils will be in vain because he rejected the ways of the Almighty. There are two possible interpretations of a sinner's fate. The first interpretation could be that the sinner never gets to have children that outlive him; hence, wealth is inherited by the righteous. The second could be that the sinner has children who never know the ways of God and cannot prosper just like their father. Either way, the sinner’s wealth is transferred to the righteous. What a shame! What we must know is that God will never desert the seed of the righteous. If you are the good man who walks with God and obeys Him in sincerity, then your generations will be mighty on the earth.
Dear Heavenly Father, help me live a life of righteousness and obedience to Your ways. I obtain the grace to do all that You command me according to Your righteous counsel. May the sweat of my labors never be compromised because of Your promise to give me an expected end. I know You will keep my name and a good inheritance for my descendants because of Your mercy and favor. You will be good to my children’s children and lead them peacefully because You are a covenant-keeping God. Thank You for Your blessings. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.
