There is the belief that mercy is only required to pardon sin and for forgiveness. All the benefits we receive from God are a function of His mercy which in turn can be attributed to His love for mankind. God's generosity and graciousness is a function of His love for us. Just as a father loves his children regardless of how evil they are, greater is God's love toward us Since it is the nature of love to give and God is love, He gave his beloved and only begotten Son for the salvation and restoration of sinful man. There was no guarantee that man would accept his gesture of love or even reciprocate, yet He gave up His Son to get us back to Himself. This act of love should convince us that God is always for us and that there is nothing He wouldn't do for us. As humans, we go through trying times in life which makes us feel like God has abandoned us or He does not care. When we ask God for things and don't get answers or have our needs met, we begin to think that God is not gracious enough to grant what we ask for. If, however, He did not withhold the righteous Jesus for our salvation, then we should be encouraged that He can and will do anything for us.
Dear Heavenly Father, I bless You for Your goodness towards me. Even though I was filthy and sinful, You looked down upon me in love and gave Your sacrificial Son to pay the penalty for the sins of the world, mine included. Thank You for taking that risk to secure my freedom from sin and death. Help me to be aware of Your constant presence. Let me not feel forsaken or abandoned. Even in times of adversity, let me not lose sight of You. Every time I approach You with my requests or petitions, help me trust in Your gracious ability to deliver the answer to my request. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.
