The struggle between flesh and Spirit in our daily lives is a funny thing. The Spirit inside us desires to do what is right, yet the flesh strives to do what is wrong. Have you ever felt caught in the middle of this war? You find yourself desiring to sin and you give into it, yet find yourself plagued with guilt and conviction afterwards, asking yourself, “Why did I just do that?” Don’t worry; we have all been in that situation. Even. Paul himself describes that very thing here in Romans 7. The things that he wants himself to do, he doesn’t do; the things that he doesn’t want to do, those are the things he ends up doing. Luckily, that doesn’t mean that we’ve lost the battle. It is merely a reminder that we haven't yet reached the end. Remember that at the end of time, those who are in Christ will be glorified with new bodies that are not riddled with sin. One day, we will be set free from the war between flesh and Spirit. In the meantime, we can live under grace knowing that even though we do fail, Christ is always there to pick us back up. Rest in this grace today and use it as motivation to get back up and keep striving for righteousness.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are a God of grace. The grace and mercy that You pour out on Your people are both undeserved and unending. How could we possibly thank You for that? Lord, I am sorry for all of the times that I have taken advantage of that grace. I pray that You help me to truly follow the Spirit in my daily walk and that I can courageously fight my own flesh as this war wages inside of me. Thank You for all that You do for me. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.
Romans 14:23
For whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
1 Corinthians 15:33
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
1 John 2:1
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
Ecclesiastes 5:6
Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?
