Have you experienced dysfunction or pain in any part of the body? What was the effect? The human body is a complex structure made up of many parts in definite places with different functions. If any part is unable to perform its function effectively, the productivity and functionality of the whole body will be affected. Every part is expected to play its specific role in the body to ensure proper functioning. No part of the body is superior to or more important than the other because of its role. Each part needs one another, no matter how insignificant. The church, Christ’s spiritual body, which represents God’s kingdom on Earth, is likened to the human body. Just as the body has many parts with diverse functions, the church is made up of different individuals with diverse functions based on the gifts God has endowed them with. Every part of the body is dependent on the other for proper functionality. Similarly, we need each other for the church to grow into what God intended. No gift or ministry is superior or of more significance than the other. The diversity of gifts is meant to unify the church into what God wants us to be. Our individual gifts are meant to serve the collective purpose of growing together into the fullness of the image of Christ.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for making me a member of Your family on Earth and granting me the privilege to serve Your purpose on Earth with other children of Your. Help each one of us play our role according to the grace You give us. Give us the understanding so as to know that we need one another for all-round growth. Let envy, strife, and arrogance not find expression within Your church. Help us keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace in Jesus' name. Amen.
