It is difficult for a person to know the value of freedom if he or she has never been in bondage. People who have been denied freedom either by imprisonment or being held as captives will appreciate what it means to be free. Humanity has been sold under captivity to sin by the disobedience of one man, Adam. The sacrifice of Jesus through his death on the cross did not only make atonement for our sins but also paid the ransom for our release. The blood of Jesus was the price that was paid for our freedom from the compelling power of sin and death. We have been sanctified, cleansed, and free to serve God. We have been liberated from the strict obligations of the Mosaic law and the observance of religious rites. Salvation through faith in Christ is often misunderstood for legalism – adherence to the law of Moses to obtain the right standing with God. This misconception makes it difficult for new believers to serve Jesus in spirit and in truth. As believers, we should understand that our justification is not because of our obedience to the law or doing good works. Instead, it is by faith in the finished work of Jesus. Therefore, we should stand our ground and fight against contrary teachings that can take us back into bondage.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the salvation of my soul. Thank You for redeeming me from sin and death. Thank You for setting me free from the curse of the law to live a triumphant life in Christ Jesus. I pray for the spirit of discernment to know the difference between truth and false teaching. Fill me with the knowledge of the truth so that I will not be led into bondage by deceit. Help me to live this new life focused on You instead of the world. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
1 Corinthians 7:22
For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.
James 1:25
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
John 8:32
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Galatians 4:9
But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
