Inspiration
Every civilized society has set rules to ensure the restoration of law and order. Citizens have an obligation to abide by the laws of the land for their own interests. Law-abiding residents need not fear the wrath of the law. Defaulters, however, are on the receiving end of punishment for non-adherence. The rules are guiding principles that enable us to distinguish between good and evil and make a decision. We get rewards when we do good but face the consequences when we do evil. There is a saying in the Bible that where there’s no law, there is no sin. This implies that the presence of the law exposes sin and its consequences.
God gave us laws or commandments to live by so we can be at peace with Him and with one another. If we choose to adhere to these laws, we are guaranteed abundant life in Christ. Failure to obey means death. However, it becomes impossible to observe and keep these commands if we are oblivious to God’s ways. The promised blessings of God for His people are conditioned on our obedience to His commands and our worship of Him. Just as a father expects his children to live by the good values he has instilled in them, God also expects us to walk in His ways that expose us to His nature and character.
We have the guarantee of a blessed and prosperous life only when we obey His commands and revere Him above all.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your thoughts and plans towards me because they are for good and not evil. I bless Your name for Your intentions to ensure that I enjoy a blessed and prosperous life. Thank You for Your mercy towards a mortal man like me. Father Lord, teach me to reverence and fear You. Let me delight in doing things that please You. Let me not see Your commands as grievous and impossible to keep; instead, help me to consciously keep Your laws and live by them. Teach me Your ways through Your Spirit, and may I be strengthened to walk in them.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
