In this verse, the Apostle Peter describes believers as living stones that are being built up into a spiritual house. He emphasizes the importance of unity and the role of Christ as the cornerstone of this spiritual edifice. The imagery of a building and the idea of being a part of a greater whole underscores the significance of each individual believer's contribution to the larger community of faith. Our spiritual sacrifices to God are not based on our own merit but are presented through His authority. It is not our own righteousness that makes us acceptable, but rather the righteousness imputed to us through faith in Christ's sacrifice. As living stones being built into a spiritual house, we are able to offer up acceptable spiritual sacrifices only because we are identified with Jesus. No person who is not saved can come near to God because sin causes a separation between God and humanity. It is only through salvation that we can have fellowship with the Father and enter into His presence. Our sins are forgiven, and we are placed in Christ, so we must approach the Father through the Lord Jesus. In simple terms, we are embraced by God through Christ, and only by Him can we reach God.
Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You with grateful hearts for the privilege of being called living stones in Christ's spiritual house. May I continually offer spiritual sacrifices that are pleasing to You through my faith in Jesus Christ. Help me to be a holy priesthood, set apart for Your purposes, and to proclaim Your goodness to the world. May my life bring glory to Your name as I share the message of salvation with those around me. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
