No one wants or bargains for a life full of trials, pain, and suffering. Life happens to everyone regardless of their economic status or age. Painful experiences of loss, hardship, poverty, and prolonged illness can make us miserable and give in to despair. People all over the world go through suffering. Believers are not excluded. In fact, suffering is a part of the Christian walk. We suffer injustice, persecution, hardship, and loss. Nevertheless, Scripture exhorts us not to give in to despair or feel that God has forgotten us. Our suffering as children of God has a sense of purpose, so it is not meaningless. The present affliction we are passing through is momentary. It is a phase of life that is fleeting and temporary. Knowing that God uses our experiences, either good or bad, to work out something great in our lives. When we go through troubles in life, understanding that God is about to achieve something glorious and weighty through that bitter experience should make us worry less. Our suffering is of no value when compared to the glory that is being achieved in us (Romans 8:18). We should rejoice in what God is doing and not focus on the circumstances around us.
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise Your name because I know You are working things out for my good. Thanks for providing a way to escape life's troubles. I bless You for Your right hand that delivered me from all my afflictions. Lord, I ask for strength to persevere in the midst of suffering. Enlarge my capacity and help me endure hardship like a good soldier of Christ. Let me not be focused on the troubles that life throws at me; instead, help me to understand that my troubles are bringing out an exceedingly great glory for You. Thank You for being my sustainer and refuge. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
1 Peter 1:11
Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
Psalm 34:19
Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.
2 Timothy 2:12
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us.
Romans 8:35
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
