Relationships make up the world; families constitute the societies that form the nations of the Earth. These families are formed through relationships, either by blood or adoption. No person can survive on their own outside of their association or relationship with others. We know from the study of life that plants and animals interrelate and are dependent on one another for continued existence and survival. Most of God's instructions and commands are centered on relationships, either horizontally (our association with one another) or vertically (our relationship with God). As humans, we are bound to experience friction or conflict as we relate with one another. How we value our relationships is evident in the way we handle conflict with others. Conflict can make us lose or destroy valuable relationships and even disturb our sense of peace if we permit it. As believers, God wants us to respond differently in the face of conflict. It is true that we cannot control other people's feelings towards us, but we can control our response in our pursuit of peace. We should strive to ensure peace, even in situations when we are hurt and tempted to react. By controlling our words and conduct, we can encourage peace and not division.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for reigning in my life and giving me rest from the troubles of this world. I pray that You help me express Your love to those around me by living in peace with them. Teach me to resist situations that can cause discord, heal my heart of hurt, and restore my sense of peace. I ask for the strength to forgive those who have wronged me and to love and value every person who relates to me. May my words and actions reflect Your love and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
James 3:18
And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
Isaiah 54:10
For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
Psalm 30:5
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
2 Thessalonians 3:16
Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.
