Inspiration
There is much debate in the Christian world today, especially on the topic of spiritual gifts such as prophecy and speaking in tongues. However, many people seem to fall on one of two extremes when it comes to these topics. Either they believe that we should have nothing to do with these gifts or that we should just indulge in them and believe in all that comes from them. However, neither of these is the view that the Bible takes.
As these verses say, we should not despise prophesying. However, we should prove all things and hold fast to what is good. This simply means that we should not fight against prophecy as a whole, but we should hold prophecy up to the truth that is in Scripture and test it so that we can prove it to be true or false.
Above all, we should hold fast to what is good, and God will lead us in the right direction. When we truly hold fast to the truth that God has given us, seeking His guidance every step of the way, we cannot go wrong.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gifts that You give us through Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for the Spirit's presence in my life and for the comfort He brings in all situations. Lord, I ask for wisdom in this area of spiritual gifts and prophecy. Help me to see the truth as Your people attempt to seek it, and help me to be careful with Your truth. May You continue to guide us all and help us to reconcile our differences in these areas so that we can be one united people of God.
In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
