How do you feel when a fellow brother or sister is in need of help? What was your response to alleviating his/her burden and meeting that need? The only way believers can show that they are different from the world is through their expression of love for one another (John 13:35). This love is mostly displayed in the ways people bear one another’s burdens out of compassion. Believers cannot afford to be ignorant about the needs of others, especially fellow brethren in the faith. Our good works are an indication that we know who we are in God and what we represent on earth.
As followers of Christ, we must imitate this nature of God-called love. Jesus, while on earth, was and still is compassionate towards people who are burdened, hopeless, and helpless. His good humanitarian works borne out of a heart full of compassion endeared many to Him. As an extension of God’s love, we should be driven to help one another. As a light in a dark and dying world, our good works borne out of compassion must be seen by all men, especially within the church. By so doing, those who have been helped and shown love can also be encouraged to do the same to other brethren.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for making me a member of Your family here on earth. I am grateful for Your mercy and compassion even when I did not deserve it. Thank You for not giving up on me and persevering until I acknowledged Your kindness. In a world where I can be anything, let me be kind. Give me the heart of a shepherd, one who is concerned and cares about others. Teach me to be selfless, compassionate, and people-oriented. Bless me so that I can also be a blessing to those in need.
