If you have gone job hunting, you would know that there are certain qualities and skills every potential employer expects you to possess. Job descriptions may differ from one company to the other, but certain work ethic qualities such as integrity, teamwork, and ability to work under pressure seem to be required by any organization. This is because no matter how intelligent a person is for a job position, a lack of these abilities would have an adverse effect on the productivity and image of the company. One can be a believer filled with the Holy Spirit but lack the one thing that makes our profession of God valid. In Colossians 3:14, Paul was encouraging the church at Colossae regarding the traits they should exhibit as new creatures in Christ. This new life is characterized by a way of living and conduct that is entirely different from their old life. In our world today, many believers profess to be saved, but their character does not depict the new life in Christ. It is possible to cultivate these character traits even without being a Christian. But what makes a believer different is that love is the basis of everything he or she does. When it comes to God's kingdom, we are not commended for the way things are done at face value but for the motive behind our behaviors. The basis of God's character is His loving nature, and as God's children, our lives must express this love. How much of God we become is measured by how much love we express. The measure of spiritual maturity and becoming like Christ is the extent to which we show love.
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that You fill me with Your love so that I may love others the way that You do. Help me to put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony, as Colossians 3:14 tells us. May my words and actions be filled with Your love, and may I extend grace and forgiveness to those around me. You have loved me unconditionally, so I ask that You help me to do the same for others. Thank You for the ultimate display of love that You showed by sending Your Son to die for us. May Your love flow through me and touch the lives of those around me. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.

The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
Colossians 3:8
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Proverbs 25:28
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Proverbs 15:1
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
