Galatians 5 is about freedom in Christ and living by the Holy Spirit rather than our sinful nature. In this powerful letter, Paul proclaims the reality of our liberty in Christ - freedom from the law and the power of sin and freedom to serve our living Lord. Salvation is for everyone and those who call on the name of Jesus Christ as the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13). We belong to Jesus Christ when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. We cannot proclaim that we are Christ's followers if we still hold on to our sinful desires. A true Christian must turn from sin and nail their passion to do sin to the cross, as the passion is dead and no longer holds power. In the faith of Jesus Christ, we have a new life that is free from sin's power and led by the Holy Spirit. Although we may not always be tempted by evil to sin, with the Spirit of God in our hearts, we are no longer obliged to do so. Commit our sinful tendencies to God and crucify them daily. Embrace the Holy Spirit and follow His lead so that we can call ourselves Christ and live our lives in His name.
Dear Heavenly Father, please help me overcome my sinful desires when I am attempted by evil. Help me live by the Holy Spirit rather than my sinful nature. I ask that You cast out all lusts that are in my heart and crucify them so they no longer have power over me. LORD, bless me with strength and keep me close to You. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
Ephesians 4:24
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Ezekiel 36:27
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
1 Peter 1:23
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
