This verse comes from the letter written by James, Jesus’s half-brother, to Jewish Christians who had been scattered throughout the Mediterranean world because of persecution. People often say it is easy to believe in God when life is good. But in the event of the loss of someone we love, the loss of our job, or as a result of becoming seriously ill, what will happen to our faith? That is the real test of our faith. In addition to telling the persecuted Jewish Christians to be patient, James also tells them that we must develop patience through trials, on which we are tested by God in our faith. It is through trials that God helps us become the kind of people who glorify His name. Our strength to endure hardships does not come from ourselves; it comes from God. Don’t resent difficulties when they come. Pray for wisdom, and God will supply all you need to face persecution or adversity. He will give you patience and keep you strong in times of trial.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the blessings and thank You for the trials. Everything You put me through is for my benefit. I pray for Your wisdom and strength when life gets tough. Fill my heart with joy when troubles come my way, for I know that You have better things planned for me. Thank You for always being there for me in my good and bad times. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
2 Timothy 2:3
Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
James 1:12
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Lamentations 3:25
The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
