As Christians, we are united in one body, one spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God! Apostle Paul calls us in Ephesians 4 to live in harmony with one another in our church - to be kind to one another, to be tenderhearted, and to forgive one another as God has forgiven us through Jesus Christ as have done for us. Being tenderhearted means being able to feel love, sorrow, or pity easily. It is a feeling coming from deep inside of us. Tenderheartedness is not something superficial; it is rooted in our hearts and spirit. To maintain our tender hearts, we do not allow past hurts to hinder our ability to form relationships with others as Christians. Forgiveness doesn't mean that we have to forget the hurt; it means we choose to move on and let God heal our hearts. When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, we are forgiven. He has paid the price of our sins with His blood so that we can be free. Why are we holding grudges or debts against each other if we don't have more debts to pay? Actually, the first thing we should ask ourselves whenever we ask God to forgive our sins is whether we have forgiven the people who have wronged us for what they did. As Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:14, if we forgive those who sin against us, our heavenly Father will also forgive us. Forgiveness is not an option in God's eyes; it is required.
Dear Heavenly Father, teach me to forgive others from my heart as You have forgiven me. Keep my heart tender and fill it with Your love for Your love is powerful and contagious! Help me to show compassion to others and reflect Your love to everyone around me. Thank You for Your forgiveness and mercy. LORD, bless me with a kind, soft, and forgiving heart. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
