10 mins a day, closer to God.
As a Shepherd takes care of his sheep, the verse describes the wisdom, strength, and kindness of our God. With God as our protector, we will not be short of anything we would need. That is what it means when it says, “I shall not want.” In this sentence, “want” means “lack”. David was inspired to personalize this Psalm to read: The Lord is my Shepherd. In truth, He is your Shepherd, He is my Shepherd, and He is the Shepherd of those who love and trust Jesus as Savior. We are His sheep, and no one can take Him away from us. Thus, we can rightly say that the Lord is my Shepherd, for He leads and comforts each and every one of us every step of the way. In both good times and difficult times, Christ is with us, promising never to abandon us nor to leave us but to be our constant Companion and Comforter. We never need to fear the darkest valley, for Jesus is always with us. He protects and comforts us with His rod and staff. It is certain that His grace and goodness, along with unfailing love and mercy, will continue to follow us, that we will live in the house of our Lord forever, and that we will dwell in His presence.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being my Shepherd, the one who leads me through life. Let me see You on the hillsides. Let me never miss You. As a sheep, I will obey Your guidance, listen to Your words, and follow Your voice. Throughout my life, I trust You to be the good Shepherd, the wise Shepherd, the loving Shepherd, and the strong Shepherd. You are all that I need and I love You Lord. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
