Inspiration
This verse continues Paul's comparison of the powerful actions of Adam and Jesus. The action of Adam was one of disobedience. Despite God's direct, clear instruction, Adam and Eve disobeyed. The result of that disobedience was the creation of many sinners. In contrast, Jesus' action, the death of the cross, was an act of obedience. Consequently, many would be made righteous through their faith in Him and by the abundant grace of God.
As we contemplate the fact that one man (Adam) caused all humans to be born in sin as a result of his one sin, we realize the depth of the goodness and grace of God, making it possible for anyone who believes in the one Man (Christ) to be declared righteous. Faith in the one perfect Kinsman-Redeemer on Calvary's Cross makes many righteous.
Due to the trespass of one man, death reigned through him. In light of this fact, it is astounding to realize the abundant flow of grace and the amazing gift of righteousness can reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. Hence, just as one trespass brings condemnation to all, so too does one righteous act bring life-giving justification to all.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the goodness of Your heart and the abundant grace You have extended to me through Christ Jesus, my Savior. Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner as a result of my relationship with Adam. Thank You for granting me the privilege of identifying with Christ's righteousness by faith. We praise and thank You for allowing us to recognize our sinfulness through the Law, which allows us to turn to Christ as Savior for forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
