Inspiration
The possession of material goods is temporary. As Jesus instructs His followers in this verse, they should not place their focus on material goods in this life. Clothes and other fabrics can be eaten by moths. Rust occurs on metal objects. The thieves are trained to identify wealthy individuals and break into their homes to steal their belongings. In an instant, disaster and chaos can take away all of our material possessions.
Possessions and money are not inherently evil, and when used correctly, they can be extremely beneficial to others and to God. There is nothing wrong with possessing the good things of this world. It is dangerous, however, for goods and money to begin to possess our hearts, our perceptions, and our behaviors. All kinds of evil attitudes and ungodly behaviors are rooted in the misguided love of money.
Nowadays, many influencers encourage their followers to live their best lives with hardly any regard for spiritual enrichment or heavenly investments. Being dependent on worldly wealth is dangerous, especially when it crosses the line into greed or materialism. In light of this, we are urged as believers to recognize the diabolic trap of laying up treasure on earth rather than investing in heaven. Where our treasure is, there will also be our heart.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that through the riches of Your grace, You will help me find my treasure in You and place no other value higher than You. I am aware of how easy it is to commit the sin of storing up the wrong kind of treasure here on earth rather than striving to develop a godly attitude toward wealth. Please keep me from covetousness and teach me to develop the right attitude towards money for today, as well as heavenly treasures accumulated for Your praise and glory.
In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
