This verse describes the first time Jesus left a prospective follower behind, not because he was unworthy but because he was destined for something greater. Although the man would have benefited from traveling with Jesus, his testimony to his friends and family was of greater benefit to the Kingdom of God. Thus, Jesus heals the man as well as allows his family to return and reconcile. Through Christ's ministry, all families of the earth, not just Israel, would be blessed. All who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, whether Jews or Gentiles, are that promised Seed of Abraham. Although Jesus must first bring the Gospel to the Jews in order to fulfill Scripture, we also observe glimpses of His compassion towards the Gentiles throughout his ministry. In the kingdom of God's dear Son, there is no one who has strayed so far into Satan's domain that they cannot be rescued by the almighty power of Christ. No one, no matter how ruined and broken their lives are, cannot be spared mercy by the Lord Jesus, who will bind up their wounds and commission them as His vessels to carry the Gospel to others in need.
Dear Heavenly Father, there are no words to describe the breadth, the height, and the depth of Your grace and mercy. It is a blessing to know that You are ready and willing to save those who are lost, to bind up those who are broken, and to release those who have been taken captive by Satan. It is my prayer that I will be willing to go anywhere You send me and tell those whom I meet of the great things You have done for me. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
