In this verse, Peter states that Christians should embrace suffering with the same attitude as Jesus. Christians should expect suffering in this life, as Peter has emphasized throughout this letter. In his life, Jesus suffered greatly. Essentially, it was one of His purposes, one of His missions. As we follow Him and carry out His mission, hardships will also be part of the journey. As Christ suffered unjustly with much patience, we should employ this principle of patience and endurance in the face of unfair treatment and discriminatory practices we may encounter in the course of our own Christian journey. With the precious blood of Christ Jesus our Lord shed, we are all called to be courageous and determined and accept suffering in this life for the sake of Christ. We are eternally redeemed as born-again believers who have been saved through grace through faith. It is our choice whether to live a spiritual or a mortal life. The question remains, however, how can we continue to be slaves to sin when the Lord Jesus has set us free from the shackles of sin and broken its suffocating power over us?
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Christ to earth as my Lord to identify with my sin and suffer in the flesh for me so that I could be saved through faith in His sacrificial work on the cross. In knowing that He has not only paid for my sin, but also broken the power of sin in my life, I pray that I may develop the same resolve to live holy unto the Lord. My Lord, give me the courage to accept suffering with the same attitude You held when You were suffering. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
2 Timothy 2:11
For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him.
2 Timothy 2:12
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us.
Philippians 1:29
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
2 Corinthians 4:17
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
