Transformation involves a conscious decision to leave behind the old way of living, the "old man" or the former self. The old man is defined by corrupt desires and deceitful lusts that lead to sin and spiritual death. This verse calls believers to reject these sinful tendencies and embrace a new way of life in Christ. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can undergo this transformation by renewing our minds and hearts. The old habits and desires that once defined us no longer have a hold on us, as we are made new in Christ. This is a continual process of renewal, where we grow in purity, holiness, and faith. To put off the old man is to make a daily commitment to live according to God's will, to seek His righteousness, and to walk in the newness of life He has given us.
Ezekiel 36:27
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
Isaiah 43:18
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Colossians 3:10
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.
Ezekiel 36:24
For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.
