Ezra 8:23 recounts the story of the Israelites fasting and praying for God’s protection and guidance as they journeyed. Their fast was an expression of dependence on God, asking for His favor as they embarked on a challenging task. The fast shows their recognition that they needed divine intervention, and God responded by answering their prayers. In times of crisis, fasting and prayer are ways we humble ourselves before God, acknowledging our limitations and dependence on His provision. This verse teaches us that fasting is not only about personal growth but about seeking God’s help in times of need. It demonstrates that God listens to the prayers of those who earnestly seek Him, and He responds to their dependence on Him with grace and protection. Fasting in humility allows us to align our hearts with God’s will, trusting that He will answer our prayers according to His perfect plan.
Judges 20:26

1 Samuel 7:6
And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the Lord, and fasted on that day.
Ezra 8:21
Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God.
Acts 13:2
As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
