Jesus’ declaration that the cup represents "the new covenant in my blood" is deeply significant. In the Old Testament, covenants were established with sacrifices of animals, but Jesus, as the perfect Lamb of God, establishes a new covenant through His own blood. This cup, poured out for the forgiveness of sins, signifies the ultimate sacrifice that brings about a new relationship between humanity and God. Through Jesus' blood, we are no longer bound by the old system of sacrifices but are now partakers of a new and everlasting covenant. This act of remembering His blood poured out calls us to reflect on the profound cost of our redemption. As we drink from the cup in communion, we are reminded that we have been set free from sin and reconciled to God. The blood of Christ is not just symbolic but is the very means through which we are made clean and able to enter into God’s presence. This verse points us to the centrality of Christ’s sacrifice and the new life He offers through His blood. The cup of communion invites us to remember and celebrate the redemption we have through Him.

John 6:57
Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.
1 Corinthians 10:16
Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ.
Matthew 26:30
When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
