Love, in its purest form, does not seek self-interest or reward, but chooses to love and serve regardless of what is returned. This verse challenges us to rise above transactional relationships and to love without expectation. It asks us, what reward is there for loving only those who love us back? Even the world does this, but as followers of Christ, we are called to a higher standard. True love doesn’t count the cost but freely gives. As leaders, we are called to model this selfless love, teaching others that love is not about gaining something in return but about reflecting the heart of God. In doing so, we witness to the world that God’s love is unconditional, unmerited, and all-encompassing. When we love without expecting anything in return, we are fulfilling the highest call of discipleship.
