Inspiration
This verse teaches us that the role of rulers is to uphold justice, and those who do right have no reason to fear them. Rulers and authorities serve as agents of God’s order, acting to reward good behavior and punish wrongdoers. When society is governed by righteous laws, those who follow these laws experience peace and security. It is when individuals stray from God's commands and do wrong that they encounter fear and judgment from those in authority. This passage serves as a reminder that authority is not inherently evil but is instituted by God to maintain justice and order. The purpose of governmental authorities is to prevent lawlessness and to bring about a society where good is rewarded and evil is punished. This teaches us to be good citizens and to live in accordance with God's laws, knowing that authorities are meant to support our obedience to His will. When we live uprightly, we have nothing to fear, but when we live in sin, we must be ready to face the consequences, which may include judgment from both human authorities and, more importantly, from God Himself. As Christians, it is important to recognize the role of authority as part of God’s providential plan for society and to respect it accordingly.
