Inspiration
The Bible also advises older women to be reverent in behavior, “not slanderers or slaves to much wine.” This is a call to women, and by extension to all believers, to live lives of integrity and discipline. Instead of being enslaved by alcohol or gossip, women are encouraged to live in a way that honors God. The use of “slaves to much wine” indicates that excessive drinking can take control of a person’s life, leading them into a pattern of behavior that is not reflective of godliness. The Bible calls us all to avoid letting any substance or habit enslave us, but to live in the freedom that comes from Christ. By exercising self-control, we honor God with our bodies, and our behavior reflects His glory to those around us. Older women, as role models in the church, are called to set an example for the younger generation by living lives of sobriety, reverence, and wisdom.
